What can I say about this album? I really don't have words. For me this was the best album of a very good year. I downloaded it warily, and listened to the first track, and listened to the album three times that day. The opening track, the most loving condemnation of America I think I've ever heard, sells the album's two big points; the singer's amazing deep voice and the drummer's ability to kick complete and total ass. This only gets more apparent in the next track. There's also a nice little...concept, I guess, in the middle of the album about war. There isn't a weak track on this album, and it leads me to a funny story.
I'm at a concert, and this douchebag shows up in the conversation, wearing an ironic sweater. You know what I mean; it's warm as shit inside and here comes a colorblind douchebag looking for all the world like the Zebra Stripes zebra. We get on subject of the best album of the year, and I mentioned the National and he WINCED. Like it fucking hurt him. And then of course he said Panda Bear's Person Pitch, probably the most pussy album of the year. And then no shit he pointingly dropped his copy of Howl.
So yeah, fuck that guy. If you are that guy, or someone who has an opinion on Pitchfork (who fucking cares it's free and they keep up with releases and are sometimes right and sometimes wrong you fucking dicks), you won't like this album because your little twee sensibilities will wince and you'll be too upset to deal with the fact that this album rocks about as much as it indies it up occasionally.
The album sounds just like the cover art shows; it's intimate and honestly I wish this band had never blown up like it did, because we'll probably never get a National like before Boxer again.
My best album for 2007, hands down. Also, fuck Panda Bear.

no one actually likes panda bear they pretty much sound like church music
i think that dude was being ironic because this shit sounds like something someone's 17 year old brother would make
i think what i meant to say was that it sounds like really boring church music made by a 17 year old.
also boxer is probably one of my TOP PIX OF 2007 but i generally don't sort my music by the gregorian calendar so maybe i'm forgetting something
triple posting in thsi blog is BANNABLE your gonna band
in my opinion, there is nothing special about this album, its completely uninteresting and repetitive; i've never heard panda bear, but as you describe it if its at least 3 times worse than this album, i would place it in the realm of impossible
