THIS BLOG IS CLOSED

several of the biggest music blogs have closed lately because of lawsuits. if it was just me, I wouldn't close this blog, but because a lot of other people use this and are uploading to it, I don't want to risk that anyone get in trouble for hosting music here.

it's been a lot of fun and I guess unless I do recieve a threat, I'm not going to close all the download links (namely because it would take a really long time) but this blog is closed indefinitely.

sorry gang!

Tim Buckley - Lorca (1970)

#01 - Lorca

#03 - I had a talk with my Woman
#04 - Driftin'
#05 - Nobody Walkin'

I guess to talk about how weird this LP is would be kinda pretentious. I have heard apocraphyllic stories about how Buckley made this album to alienate his fans on purpose... but as far as I am concerned what you get is a haunting front side full of rhodes piano and really strange dissonant passages that have more in common with what Miles Davis was doing in 1970 than with the rest of folk music at large, and on the second side the reverse is true, however, adding to the mix electric bass and congas. Regardless of any stigma this album may have within music circles (I really dont know if I'm putting up an absolute stinker or what) but I really enjoy it and I think that if you're into avant-garde type music that you should definitely check this out.

from allmusic.com: Buckley stunned and, to a rare degree, alienated fans with the dissonant, at times wearying, avant-garde exercises in vocal gymnastics that took up the entire first side of this LP. Side two was far more accessible, though Buckley's fusion of folk instrumentation with jazzy improvisation on extended compositions continued to take him further away from his folk-rock roots.

"Watertown" – 3:36
"Goodbye (She Quietly Says)" – 3:06
"For a While" – 3:09
"Michael and Peter" – 5:10

I got this because 1. love Sinatra and 2. reportedly it's the first concept album. It's very sad music and of course Sinatra's beautiful voice. I've always loved Sinatra so I guess I can't be OBJECTIVE but I really liked this.

Also no, it's not flac; I couldn't get the flac up.

Do you like people that come from the same school of thought as the Decembrists, that music should tell a story and all these emotion songs are boring? Are you in the unenviable position of being one of these people, but you can't stand Colin Meloy because you have taste?

Welcome to Sun Kil Moon, a band created by the singer from the Red House Painters, a group Jope linked me to once without knowing it (heh). Really good stuff, especially if you like story music or the Red House Painters.

You might think, hey, I wonder what Sufjan Stevens is doing now. If you are, congrats, you're a fucking idiot. he's writing lyrics that would be okay until he finally throws himself into the song and ruins it because he's a self absorbed faggot.

Luckily, there is someone who sings like him and isn't self absorbed and actually has an excuse for sounding like a woman (guess that it is). Not an award winning album, but if he didn't bite her style, I'd be pretty amazed.

Mike Patton - Pranzo Oltranzista (1997)

http://sharebee.com/1f7d79a7

It's likely that Mike Patton appears SOMEWHERE in your music collection. With all his bands and collaborations he's pretty much music's slut.
That said, his solo albums don't come up much. Maybe because they're batshit insane or not so easy to find. This here is the second one, and it's the more "musical" of the two albums. (Not hard, given the first [Adult Themes for Voice] is just him making noises in a microphone.)

Pranzo is still pretty experimental and noisy, though. It's based around food and the Futurist Cookbook. Features Marc Ribot on guitar, William Winant on percussion, Erik Friedlander on cello and John Zorn on alto sax. Kinda unsettling stuff!

Uh fucks me what else to say HERES THE WAKEPEDEDIA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pranzo_Oltranzista

2029. John Mayall - [The Turning Point #06] Thoughts About Roxanne
2030. John Mayall - [The Turning Point #07] Room To Move

Acoustic blues from the late 60s. For those of you who dont know who John Mayall is.. well.. without him there would be no Eric Clapton, no Jeff Beck and no Jimmy Page. They all played guitar in his (Mayall's) band at one point or another, but I digress. This is an interesting album because uhh it comes immediately after the blues revival in England, which was pretty electric and departed from most jazzy roots, but this album is pretty much the opposite. Its acoustic, has no drums and almost feels like delta blues at times. Some classic tracks on here though, so definitely worth checking out.

Sometime in 2007, I uploaded the fantastic Teargas & Plateglass, and mentioned it was one of the few albums that honestly made me feel terrified while I listened to it. The first such album had to be this one, a classic now in music circles, and unfortunately given a lot of indie cred as a result, and you all know how irritating those guys can be.

It's a real shame, because this is one scary fucking album. This album will liquify your shit and make it leak out your ass. It's beautiful and pretty much made Godspeed the second biggest name in postrock (outside of Slint which now has ridiculous indie cred, but you know, Spiderland is a good album anyways, one of those deals).

If you don't have this album, what on earth. Get it already, put some headphones on, and hear one of the best albums of the 90s.

If you really don't get what it will sound like: look at the album cover.

Nighthawks at the Diner is an album by Tom Waits, released in 1975 on Asylum Records. The name is inspired by a 1942 painting by American Edward Hopper that is titled Nighthawks but commonly called Nighthawks at the Diner.

The album was recorded "live" in the studio, in front of a small invited audience. This gives the record a distinct charm as Waits spends time telling stories, jokes and explaining the stories behind his songs through seven separate introductions.

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back is the second full-length album by American hip hop group Public Enemy, released on Def Jam Recordings on April 19, 1988 (see 1988 in music). Widely regarded as the group's magnum opus, the album regularly ranks as one of the greatest and most influential recordings of all time in various publications.[1][2][3] In 2003, the album was ranked number 48 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It is the highest ranking hip hop album on the list.[4] Acclaimedmusic.net ranks the album as the 17th best album of all time and also the greatest hip-hop album.[5] TIME Magazine hailed it as one of the 100 greatest albums of all time in 2006. [6]

Enormously influential, the album's mix of The Bomb Squad's dense, sample-heavy production and Chuck D's politically charged lyrics turned the album into a sensation, peaking at #42 on the Billboard 200.

"1905 is a punk band from Washington, DC that started in 2000, played a few shows, had a line-up change in the summer of 2001 (adding a new bass player to the mix), regrouped and reworked some things, and has since been playing around rather consistently since October 2001. The lyrics address the politics of our everyday lives and how the individual plays an important part in the greater scheme of things. These lyrics are conveyed through female and male vocals. The vocals go between singing and screaming. The music has a distinct feel to it and there is definitely a great deal of emotion poured into it. 1905 now has a full length CD called Voice on Exotic Fever Records, look for the LP soon on Amor y Lucha."

Fear of a Black Planet is the third full-length album by American hip hop group Public Enemy, released on March 20, 1990 on Def Jam Recordings (see 1990 in music). The album's musical qualities were overshadowed by a controversy surrounding alleged anti-Semitic remarks by group member Professor Griff. After the controversy had been forgotten, however, the album's critical reception was generally very positive, with many commentators ranking it equal to or better than the previous album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988). In particular, critics were favorable to The Bomb Squad's innovative and diverse production and Chuck D's songwriting. The Encyclopedia of Popular Music credits Fear of a Black Planet's atmosphere to the "bunker mentality" of "clashes with the press", and specifically cites "Fight the Power", which "bites harder than just about any other track in rap's history" (p. 1864).

It was ranked 21 in Spin's "100 Greatest Albums, 1985-2005". In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source Magazine's 100 Best Rap Albums.[1] In 2003, the album was ranked number 300 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2004, Fear of a Black Planet was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry.

#06 - Opus Pocus
#07 - Okonkole y Trompa
#08 - (Used To Be A) Cha-Cha

#10 - (Used To Be A) Cha-Cha (take 2)

If you like any of the following you will enjoy this album: bass guitar, grooves, fusion jazz, world music, orchestra. There are several classic songs on this that any fan of jazz bass really should be familiar with, for instance a recording of Miles Davis and Charlie Parker's Donna Lee for solo bass with conga accompaniament and the Jaco standard Portrait of Tracy in its earliest recorded form. Theres a whole goody bag of shit on here running from jazz standards and ballads to fusion and afro-cuban. So yeah, its groovy, its varied and its pretty awesome.

28915. Flower Travellin' Band - [Satori #04] Satori Part IV
28916. Flower Travellin' Band - [Satori #05] Satori Part V

Blogger is typing with lag so I'm just uploading and recommending with this wiki entry.

Satori (1971)

-- Probably the most well-known FTB album in the West, Satori consists of five original songs, "Satori parts I-V". These are lengthy heavy rock pieces, verging on progressive rock or jam rock at times, with furious guitar soloing and strong arranging, as well as Yamanaka's over-the-top vocals. Critically, Satori is considered the album where FTB truly came into their own. Stoner Rock and Doom Metal enthusiasts often cite this album as one of the precursors in those genres. This album was later utilized as the soundtrack to Takashi Miike's film Deadly Outlaw: Rekka in which Akira "Joe" Yamanaka and Yuya Uchida had small roles.

King Crimson - Red (1974)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

#01 - Red
#02 - Fallen Angel
#03 - One More Red Nightmare
#04 - Providence
#05 - Starless

the last album that the best King Crimson line-up (Fripp, Cross, Bruford and Wetton) released before disbanding in the mid 70s. Its not as good as Starless and Bible Black.. but I didnt have a non flac version of that one so I chose to upload this one, plus it has its own interesting stuff in it, way more saxophones and cornets and flutes and shit relative to any previous albums. Complex as always, but not to the point of pretention or wankery. Not Wetton's best performance but he contributes a lot more than just bass to the album so yeah, definitely worth checking out.

Napoleon IIIrd is one man from Leeds, who plays music with a couple of instruments and a reel-to-reel tape player. His debut album, In Debt To, came out with the sort of staggered that only indie labels are forced to do, arriving digitally in May, slowly building up the attention needed for the physical launch last month.

Experimenting with broken rhythms and symphonic production (he occasionally plays shows through surround sound speakers), he has culled two singles from the disc, both released on Brainlove Records, the London-based basement company that released the album.

The first, This Is My Call To Arms, begins with him wailing, out of tune and sounding slightly mad before racing to a false finish just 20 seconds in. Singing, in harmony with himself, “This is my call to the upper limbs”, horns kick in, and the song proper begins.

The trait that both Call to Arms, and the current single, Hit Schmooze for Me share is a feeling that they are every so slightly broken. What belies their analog roots, though, is that these hiccups - slightly off-key singing, instruments not all starting at the same time - add to the enjoyment of the song. Don’t get me wrong, I love Glitch as much as the next man (because the next man probably hasn’t heard of it), but, like Lomography before him, Napoleon IIIrd succeeds in taking technology that doesn’t quite work, and using those flaws to create beauty.

Gulistan means Rose Garden in Parsi, and for some reason Persian musicians love referencing it in their music, I have yet to figure that out. Anyway this is a really awesome percussion driven album by an artist who was very young at the time of recording. It doesnt follow the traditional Persian compositional pattern of 'pishdaramad' (prelude) 'daramad' (introduction), 'tasnif' (song), 'Chahar Mezrab' (rhythmic interlude), 'reng' (dance), and any number of 'gusheh' (melodic movements) but instead is pretty much entirely chaharmezrab and reng. Its mostly instrumental, so if the vocals were your draw to the other Persian shit, sorry about that lol, but this is definitely worth checking out.

I ranted a bit about indie kids, but here's where it really gets me; they've fucking made Ghostface not cool anymore.

A friend of mine (who is it???) went to a Ghostface concert and it was a good time, except for all the hipsters. I don't like hipster hate, really; a lot of it is usually overexaggerations and then hipster hating becomes just as tired as hipsterdom itself. But there they all were, and then Ghostface says something like "Where my niggas at?" and

The hipsters look at each other incredulously, like "Can you BELIEVE he said that?"

And that's really the status Ghostface is reduced to; people looking at each other and treating him like some kind of a clown, a goofy black dude who raps things they don't understand (what's a...a baseball spliff???).

And the sad thing is, he's way more than that. He's fucking talented.

This came on the heels of the new Wu Tang, and blew that boring piece of shit away. Stellar beats, and great rapping by Ghostface.

If only you damn white people stayed away (CONTROVERSY).

But what can I say? Probably one of the best rap albums of his already stellar discography. Sidenote: does anyone know what the deal with Bulletproof Wallets is? No one talks about that shit at all.

You know, I really do respect technical prowess. Only problem is, most people seem to think that means how long John Petrucci can touch his dick in a new and different way. Fuck, doesn't Kenny G hold the record for longest note held because he's such a king of circular breathing? Of course he's good at it, dude's been breathing out of his nose for so long thanks to all the dick he sucks. I'm going to set a record for the word dick today maybe.

No, real technical ability is shit like Bach's fugues, where about five different melodies all compliment each other and you can write an entire book on one of them (and many academics have), not this garbage hitting shit fast. It's that real kind of ability that makes Mirrored such a good album.

These guys know how to put together a song. And yes, despite the elf vocals that sound like someone put the singer's testicles into a vise, they are all men as far as I know. This shit is so complex and nice sounding and really just in your face. I don't think it's party music, unless your parties are full of dicks that wear scarves where they will all nod their heads and fold their arms and lean slightly askew on objects. Somehow Battles got indie cred, and so it's hard to say you like it anymore without someone rolling their eyes.

But fuck you, it's a good album. Short and like a punch in the face, it's not something that goes well in the background of anything. I wonder how many kids tried to drop DXM to this shit and ended up crawling in the corner to die, because this is some intricately composed stuff and I am sure you'd hallucinate mice shitting blood.

And the fucking elf vocals.

Single Atlas appears to have the lyrics: weeby weebly weeby weebly weeby weebly siiiing this hook oooowwweeeoooo captain this hook oooowweeeeeooo sissa pa ma we oooooowwwweeeooo.

Thanks a lot Battles you fucking guys! You get to be number 4.

Usually albums built on emotions sound like hokey post-rock bullshit. The reason is because most post-rock is more suited for a fucking movie soundtrack than an actually good album. Emotion becomes overwrought, everything has to be epic and with violins and horns and walls of sound and of course, the fucking titles all have to be the size of Tony Everready's dick.

There are of course albums that are built off emotion that come across very well; if you don't know this you don't know anything about fucking music. But for primarily instrumental albums, it seems to be impossible to create any sense of subtlety. I've seen it a few times, and one of the best examples is Godspeed You! Black Emperor's f#a#, which tackles the theme of the apocalypse and the idea of the world ending with a whimper and more importantly doesn't fuck around with bullshit. I never thought I'd find another album like that again.

And then this little gem comes out of nowhere.

Despite being on the X-Men 3 soundtrack (or perhaps because the movie was so shit, due to), no one seems to know about this album. I had it recommended as music like Burial's Untrue (further down the list) and so I gave it a listen with some headphones on.

And a few minutes later I was in another world. A world of dead Bosnians.

That's really what this album is about. Genocide, genocide, genocide. The dead are all over this, and it's a fucking scary album. I was in a well lit room surrounded by people talking and drinking coffee and I was breathing hard and incredibly nervous. This is not a pleasant album, but goddammit, it's a necessary album.

If I had to think of a single visual image to go with this album...got one.

In Saving Private Ryan's famous opening scene, the one that gave a lot of veterans PTSD flashbacks (good job Hollywood), there's a scene where the sound goes off, and you see this man, looking around for something on the floor, and then he picks up his own arm.

That little scene and this album go together perfectly; a quiet moment of complete and utter horror. This is such a good album. I don't know what else to say. If Amon Tobin had come out of Hersegovina, he'd make this album.

Absolutely perfect and terrifying. It gets number 3, even if no one else has heard of it.

M.I.A.- Kala (2007)- Best of 07 #2

15079. M.I.A. - [Kala #12] Come Around (feat. Timbaland)

You know, I've never liked the people that say OH I DON'T LIKE RAP. They never have good reasons either; if someone had an issue with BEATS or VOCALS as a whole, then I guess it makes sense. But no, it's always that bullshit "too much gangster shit" excuse.

As a result, part of me condemned Kala before listening to it; I hadn't heard Arular, and really, the descriptions put me off for a long time. Hiphop for people who don't like hiphop is usually the most disgusting backpacker shit.

But M.I.A. is not hiphop for people who don't like hiphop. It's the fucking future.

You know how in depictions of the future, authors always make the music some type of drone? And those weird future kids dance with their eyes or minds or some goofy shit? Kala is actually what you'd expect the future to sound like. It's vibrant, samples fucking everything, and is just all around brilliant. M.I.A's strange vocal gymnastics and bizarre lyrics are fucking great, and man, I can't write more to praise this album. Were it not for the terrible Mango Pickle Down River, which fits in the album but falls apart on its own, it'd be album of the year.

As it is, a fantastic release by a great artist.

What can I say about this album? I really don't have words. For me this was the best album of a very good year. I downloaded it warily, and listened to the first track, and listened to the album three times that day. The opening track, the most loving condemnation of America I think I've ever heard, sells the album's two big points; the singer's amazing deep voice and the drummer's ability to kick complete and total ass. This only gets more apparent in the next track. There's also a nice little...concept, I guess, in the middle of the album about war. There isn't a weak track on this album, and it leads me to a funny story.

I'm at a concert, and this douchebag shows up in the conversation, wearing an ironic sweater. You know what I mean; it's warm as shit inside and here comes a colorblind douchebag looking for all the world like the Zebra Stripes zebra. We get on subject of the best album of the year, and I mentioned the National and he WINCED. Like it fucking hurt him. And then of course he said Panda Bear's Person Pitch, probably the most pussy album of the year. And then no shit he pointingly dropped his copy of Howl.

So yeah, fuck that guy. If you are that guy, or someone who has an opinion on Pitchfork (who fucking cares it's free and they keep up with releases and are sometimes right and sometimes wrong you fucking dicks), you won't like this album because your little twee sensibilities will wince and you'll be too upset to deal with the fact that this album rocks about as much as it indies it up occasionally.

The album sounds just like the cover art shows; it's intimate and honestly I wish this band had never blown up like it did, because we'll probably never get a National like before Boxer again.

My best album for 2007, hands down. Also, fuck Panda Bear.

Uploadng this for a certain person because it name drops Boris and Rainbow but god read this review IT'S SO FUNNY.

"If Boris and Michio Kurihara's Rainbow (2007) was the storm's immediate wake, its beatitude still charged with the tearing of light passing through drenched air, Boris-affiliated and Michio-married Ai Aso's Chamomile Pool is the even more serene denouement, where the rain waters have come together to rest, where the rainbow lands on some hidden horizon point and drowns in the clouds' remains with only us listeners as witnesses. Which is probably a too florid way of saying that Rainbow and Chamomile Pool make for a damn fine double feature.

Beautiful binaries are built right into this album's oil-and-water confluence, into the spare elements that yin-yang around each other within a production aesthetic that's as lucid and glutinous as the titular image. Opener "Date" hums to a start pointedly, a synth flute blaring out a three-note melody that goes up and down and pans over from the left channel while Ai's vocals refrain airily just over the surface; then Ai makes a "boop" noise and the last note echoes over on the right channel, at which point hubby Michio steps in with drawn guitar sighs easing languidly from left to right and back -- as if the picking by Ai on the right draws Michio over and then sends his plaintiveness back where it came from. The total sonic effect is inertial: the added elements simply ensure that "Date" continues its spiral sink into blue depths. The next time Ai says "boop," the key line becomes viscous chords into which You Ishihara (of White Heaven/the Stars) releases a free patter of cymbal splashes, vestigial drops falling from tree leaves into the pool, an incidental requiem for the sunken rainbow and a mere remembrance of the storm. The very definition of freaking gorgeous, it's an incipit that recalls the subdued yet potent elegiac effect of the first vignette in Kurosawa's Dreams (1990).

Most of Chamomile Pool's front half slowly spins on a similar magnetic bipolarity. In some ways the construct of "Tee Te Te" is virtually identical, just built around a different melody and without the synth or cymbal, a centered guitar line appearing sporadically throughout; but its shifts are more subtle, the overall song reveling in a harmonious sort of stagnancy. "Life" pairs a low acoustic figure on the right with a piano on the left, brushed drums and Ai floating in between, its breakdown a stunning little lounge jam where Ishihara again provides perfect cymbal glances. "Colchicum" starts with a canned bossa nova beat before Michio's picks and shimmers appear on either side, Ai's insouciant vocals and bass bringing up the middle. And "Not Late Yet" pares the dynamic down to its core, just Ai Aso singing another pristine melody with a guitar round in one hand and glockenspiel chimes coming from the other. The exception is "A Lo N," which features a full band fully playing their way through a nice pop song that would've felt right at home on early '90s Touch and Go. It's cute because it's the second track and it sounds like it's supposed to be the album's single.

Things start stirring in the album's back end. "Ka Mi Tsu" (see track listing for full title 'cause that'd be the first and last time I'm typing it all out) initially sounds like more of the same, but then Ishihara's drums and Chiaki Teranishi's Procol Harum-y organ join the mix. Still, it all stays very restrained, even with Michio's slow-motion shredding in the last minute. "Hundred Years" continues the album's newfound sense of spreading sound and measured layering, Soichiro Nakamura basically keeping time down below with the bass and drums while Ai and Michio together create incandescent cascades on high, which feels like hearing their matrimony and is enough to make a single person envious. The song holds back, though, fading out as Ai's vocals affect a dramatic rise into angelic territory. A realization creeps up on you: Chamomile Pool's about to bloom. While a solid ditty in and of itself, "A Lo N" retrospectively becomes the only too forward note in a graceful progression that peaks with "The Future."

There's an increasing but always mild restlessness to the way the band plays through the first four minutes of "The Future," like a swarm of bubbles rushing to a placid surface. When the geyser breaks, the band settles into a sustained gush of glory notes, Ai and Teranishi pounding away at their keys while Nakamura froths away at his drum kit and Michio's guitar arcs into the sky, blasting a crack through the atmosphere and letting in a radiant vocal pulse from outer space. It's thrilling but also never anything but sublimely beautiful. The tension involved doesn't feel dark or angst-ridden, seems alien to human concerns, like it really is modeled after some force of nature that's power becomes mystic to our perception. When the fountain subsides, Chamomile Pool returns to its serenity, "Land" a remake of Rainbow's "And I Want..." that finds Ai Aso back between two shining repetitions that try and fail and try again to merge, ad infinitum. And it feels like Ai might forever stay content in that static flux, a bath of chamomile keeping all nightmares at bay."

so lmao.
