Pivot
An Australian instrumental band. They play a cool post/prog rock kind of music, with a bit of electronics and minimalism. Make Me Love You is their debut album, and managed to earn plenty of praise. It was the most "obscure" of the nominees for triple j's J Award (Australian album of the year) in '05.
1. Make Me Love You
2. Artificial Horizon
3. Incidental Backcloth
4. Montecore
5. La Mer
6. Pivot Voltron
7. I May Be Gone For Some Time
8. Kirsten Dunst
9. Helps None But Hurts None
Yes, that's a song named after Kirsten Dunst. And Montecore is named after the tiger belonging to Sigfried & Roy (that attacked Roy a while back). THIS BLOG IS FOR EDUCATION.
The music's pretty engaging and fascinating to listen to. Tracks will be easy then intense, but not violent like GY!BE (for example). In their own words (MySpace), the influences are: Jean Michel Jarre, Talking Heads, Brian Eno, Liars, Aphex Twin, Ricardo Villalobos, Andrew Pekler, Vangelis, This Heat, Lightning Bolt, Arcade Fire, Chris Lilley, Garth Marenghi, Tim & Eric. I don't know, most prog/post fans I know liked this, it's just really cool music. Highlights are the title track, "Pivot Voltron" and "Kirsten Dunst".
sincerely,
JOPE
