#02 - I Dug Up A Diamond
#03 - This Is Us
#04 - Red Staggerwing

#06 - Love and Happiness
#07 - Right Now

#09 - Belle Star
#10 - Beyond My Wildest Dreams
#11 - All The Roadrunning
#12 - If This Is Goodbye

I really liked the country stuff steel put up this week so heres another album in that vein. I'd say this is more like a country/bluegrass twinged rock given that the music is mostly Mark Knopfler's creation, but Emmylou's vocals and the twangy guitars give it a definite countrylike vibe. Its good stuff, listen for the lyrics if anything, but there isnt a bad song on here so yeah.

WOW HES REALLY UGLY HUH.

Honestly I dont know how much appeal this will have if you don't have English lyrics. Brel is regarded as one of the best lyricists ever, though, and it's generally important music to have. Acoustic old stuff so yeah, if you are wanting afro-electro death wait for Pinaduz heh.

Dizzy Gillespie - Jambo Caribe (1964)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

#01 - Fiesta MoJo
#02 - Barbados Carnival
#03 - Jambo
#04 - Trinidad, Hello
#05 - Poor Joe
#06 - And Then She Stopped
#07 - Don't Try to Keep up With the Joneses
#08 - Trinidad, Goodbye

So, today I am putting something up that, chances are, you don't actually have already. This is a rather strange album coming from Dizzy Gillespie, who is known for his bebop and afro-cuban/fusion/whatever moreso than anything else. Jambo Caribe was recorded with a group of dudes from all over the Caribbean and is really more about Caribbean music than it is about Jazz. Playful lyrics and odd instrumentation make for light moments, but there are serious breaks of intense bop as well so yeah theres some cool stuff going on. Checkit.

Jeff Buckley - Grace (1994)

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

#01 - Mojo Pin
#02 - Grace
#03 - Last Goodbye
#04 - Lilac Wine
#05 - So Real
#06 - Hallelujah
#07 - Lover, You Should've Come Over
#08 - Corpus Christi Carol
#09 - Eternal Life
#10 - Dream Brother

I'm sure everyone has either heard of Jeff Buckley or heard his cover of Lenoard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' (or Rufus Wainwright's cover of Buckley's arrangement of the song in Shrek) but yeah anyway this album is really awesome. It gets a lot of hype from critics and people who want to sound really cool cause they have this martyred hero of music or whatever blah blah bullshit. I urge you to see past their crap because this album has a lot of interesting stuff going on, due to Buckley's bizarre lyrics and composition style as well as the vocal fusion of east and west (basically Buckley really liked Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (a lot) and his vocal style is a western rendition of the famed Qawwali's voice) regardless.. its good stuff, I promise.

Gerling - Bad Blood!!! (2003)

http://sharebee.com/09ea7186

Gerling: an alt-rock/experimental/electronic band from Australia.

This here is their 3rd album. It's got more guitars than the previous one, but still has the electronic edge. I think it's pretty cool. There are fun, shout-along vocals over all this noisy, danceable guitar music.

TRACKZ:

  1. "Blood on the Microphone, Pt. 1" – 4:04
  2. "Blood on the Microphone, Pt. 2" – 0:40
  3. "Get Activated" – 2:46
  4. "In the City" – 4:13
  5. "Bad Blood!!!" – 3:52
  6. "Wacked Light" – 2:59
  7. "Newwave Machine" – 4:25
  8. "Smash the Emergency Glass" – 4:29
  9. "We Got Venom" – 6:09
  10. "Who's Ya Daddy?" – 3:45
The highlights are definitely "Blood Part 1", "Get Activated" and "Who's Ya Daddy?". "Get Activated" is for FUCK YEAHs. Listen to "In the City" for the Strokes song that the Strokes never wrote. No really, it's fooled fans before.

I don't know what else to say about this album. Maybe just download it huh?

!!!!!!!!!

forever yours,
JOPE

#07 - When God Created The Coffeebreak
#08 - Spunky Spraw
#09 - Carcrash

http://sharebee.com/95264c79

This is a pretty excellent jazz album from the famous Swedish trio. Even though there are only three instruments on the album, piano/bass/drums, and it isn't necessarily swung most of the time, it still covers a wide range of jazz moods and brings some sonic ideas in from other styles of music that you don't normally hear fused with 'cool' piano playing. At times light and fun, melancholic at others, this is definitely an interesting listen.

#05 - Mama

#07 - Tasnif Parvaneh Shoä

http://sharebee.com/bdba3ba2

WC here again bringing you an excellent live album from two musicians widely considered to be Ostads within the Iranian musical tradition (equivilant to the status we give in the west to composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Wagner, Tchaikovski etc). It is an interesting recording due to the fusion of Armenian and Iranian styles, which while similar are still distinct from each other. Anyhow, Gasparyan’s arrangements of some of his own classics and reworkings of traditional Armenian folk songs allow Alizadeh quite a bit of room for improvisation and the result is, what I feel, a masterwork. Aside from the musical excellence of this performance, the event also is considered a social breakthrough, in which a female singer performed live with an otherwise male roster and appeared before a mixed-sex audience in Teheran so yeah, its pretty historic stuff and its up for a Grammy in 2007 under the category of Traditional World Music. So give it a spin if you're game.

Captain Beyond - Sufficiently Breathless

1. Sufficiently Breathless (5:15)
2. Bright Blue Tango (4:12)
3. Drifting In Space (3:12)
4. Evil Men (4:52)
5. Starglow Energy (5:03)
6. Distant Sun (4:43)
7. Voyages Of Past Travelers (1:46)
8. Everything's A Circle (4:13)

ugh, i don't really feel like typing up a long review for this one (hahaha this blog is horrible), but a little while ago steel uploaded captain beyond's self-titled progressive hard rock debut, which i really enjoyed. after searching around for a while, i found their second album, sufficiently breathless, which is not quite as heavy and a little poppyer (that's not a word this blog is horrible) but still a really good listen. check it out.

#06 - The Embers Of Eden
#07 - Blueberry Hill
#08 - Let The Bad Air Out
#09 - Look How Far
#10 - Deep Lake
#11 - Use Me While You Can

This is an excellent album by a Canadian singer-songwriter that I am sure few have heard of and even fewer have heard. He plays kind of in the vein of Mark Knopfler and Van Morrison as opposed to like Tim Buckley/Bob Dylan/James Taylor singer-songwriter. Some of Bruce's albums I'm sure could even be considered progressive by people who use that word, but this album is pretty much just 'Bruce'. It is pretty rockin regardless, and a lot of the songs have really great lyrics. I don't really know what else to say about it other than give it a spin.

09351. Galactic - [From the Corner to The Block #13] Track 13
09352. Galactic - [From the Corner to The Block #14] Find My Home w/ Vursatyl and Ohmega Watts

This is really good. Galactic went from being a kind of lame jam band to a hiphop group and they are so good at it. Gift of Gab just goes fucking nuts on his song too. I really recommend it!

It also had a really wide release so you might have it but I got a request for it so.

mclusky - The Difference Between Me and You Is That I'm Not on Fire (2004)

http://sharebee.com/136378eb

Since The Blue Testicles is on a break, looks like it's up to the rest of us to upload some things. I now have my own account for this, too. You just trust ol' Jope. Don't worry--I'm a high-level exec.

mclusky was a 3-piece noise/alt band from Wales. They made 3 albums, and were produced by Steve Albini (I know that means a lot to some people). I miss them.

This here is their final studio album. It's solid all the way through and I can't recommend these guys enough. The songs can sometimes get you singing along (or just going FUCK YEAH) while still having all this noise going on underneath. You'll hear some cool shit in this album, OK!

der tracks:
  1. "Without MSG I Am Nothing" - 2:57
  2. "That Man Will Not Hang" - 3:00
  3. "She Will Only Bring You Happiness" - 3:27
  4. "KKKitchens, What Were You Thinking?" - 1:50
  5. "Your Children Are Waiting for You to Die" - 3:54
  6. "Icarus Smicarus" - 1:51
  7. "Slay!" - 2:54
  8. "You Should Be Ashamed, Seamus" - 4:40
  9. "Lucky Jim" - 2:02
  10. "Forget About Him I'm Mint" - 1:46
  11. "1956 and All That" - 2:24
  12. "Falco vs. the Young Canoeist" - 2:12
  13. "Support Systems" - 7:50
This shit is raaaaaaad. And HEY MATTHEW GET THIS NOW.

I hope everyone enjoys it.

thinking of you,
JOPE

hey, this is chef again. i have gotten my own account so i no longer need to use steel's. so i just uploaded masterless samurai by osamu kitajima and i'm not really sure what to call it. it is sort of like progressive rock or jazz mixed with traditional japanese folk music, and it is really strange. it is definitely not GREAT or anything, but it is worth listening to because it is totally ridiculous and as far as i know there is nothing else like it. i guess i should just call it SAMURAI ROCK because that is definitely what osamu kitajima was going for. anyway, give it a listen because it is kind of interesting.

Baptist Generals - No Silver, No Gold

1. Ay Distress
2. Alcohol (Turn and Fall)
3. 500 League Reunion March (In a Plymouth)
4. Going Back Song
5. Creeper
6. Preservatine
7. On a Wheel
8. Feds on the Highway
9. Diminished
10. Burning
11. St. Christopher's Medal
12. Going Back Song [4-Track Solo]

A deeply strange, personal album, the Baptist Generals' No Silver/No Gold is much more than the sum of its parts. The group plays the kind of spare, threadbare indie rock that flirts with folk and country without committing to either; Chris Flemmons' biting, nasal vocals are the audio equivalent of vinegar, cutting through the band's shambling racket of strummy acoustic guitars, cellos, organs, and bashed drums bringing No Silver/No Gold together as a remarkably fresh and vital album, despite -- or perhaps because of -- its ornery ways.

I haven't heard this yet (it's a request) so I'm gonna copy paste:

Drawing from their Indian and Middle Eastern heritages, the UK dance/ambient outfit Loop Guru create quintessential exotic grooves with a fat wall-of-sound typical of Nation Records, full of evocative instrumentation and layered over a bottom heavy rhythm section. Like their siblings, Transglobal Underground, they utilize their roots in an intelligent and non-superficial way, truly echoing the culture-bending populace of metropolitan clubland. Their heady, dub-influenced brew spans the sonic range from dervish intensity to long, raga-esque soundscapes deceptively simple in their complexity. The Casbah vocals of Sussan Deihim and Islamic samples are underpinned by the conscious, fat rhythms of Count Dubulah, Salman Gita, and crew weaving gamelan, Hindu, and Nubian elements into proto-funk and trip hop grooves. With a street level spirituality and global conciousness, "Duniya" creates aural tapestries that become a highly listenable urban safari, melding both time and cultures in a new and original expression of world citizenship. --Derek Rath

Fantastic breakcore, supposedly from the guy who does Drumcorps. Earwicker recommended it to me, so.

HERE'S A WOKIPEIDA:

Bong-Ra is the performing name of Dutch breakcore musician Jason Kohnen from Utrecht. Formed in 1996, initially producing and DJ-ing jungle music. Previous to Bong-Ra Jason Kohnen performed as bassist and drummer for stoner/doom metal band Celestial Season amongst others. His style contains a variety of crossovers and fusions of different genres, including Metal, Gabba, Jazz, Rave and Jungle, becoming one of the front runners of the Breakcore genre, sometimes credited as 'Yardcore' or 'Raggacore', blending Reggae and Ragga with Breakcore.

whoa this is chef (what am i doing on steel's account I DON'T EVEN KNOW???) and i have decided to join in on the whole blogosphere action so here i am rocking out on stone that the builder refused.

mulatu astatke is an ethiopian jazz musician who, from my understanding, pretty much defined ethiopian jazz. i don't know because i am not mr. ethiopian jazz! what i do know is that mulatu astatke creates a really interesting and awesome blend of american free jazz, traditional ethiopian music, and blaxploitation funk that makes for really good listening. this album, mulatu of ethiopia, has some really great tracks that exhibit his drunkenly soulful style and are begging to be sampled by a hip hop producer. some of the highlights are yegelle tezeta, kasalefkut hulu, and yekerme sew, although all of the songs are really good. definitely check this out.

Ween - The Mollusk Sessions (rec '97, rel '07)

http://sharebee.com/a578eb8f

HEH I'M A FAGGOT THIS IS FREE

But not exactly readily available. Here's the story: a couple of weeks ago, Ween put an mp3 on the Waste page of their website. It was a bunch of songs recorded during the sessions for The Mollusk. Some made the cut, others did not, and some got changed a lot anyway. It was only left up for a week, though. A few people uploaded to their blogs afterwards. This here is one of them, and it has the album split up into different tracks already.

So you should still get this because
-you can't always find it since a lot of the blogs have removed it, and now it's mainly on bittorrent
-it rules

TRAX:
1 Mutilated Lips
2 Cold Blows the Wind
3 The Mollusk
4 Waving My Dick in the Wind
5 Kim Smoltz
6 Ocean man
7 Koko
8 Did You See Me
9 Flutes of the Chi
10 She Wanted to Leave
11 Vinnie the Eel

IT'S DOPE GET IT NOW also I refuse to believe that the new Wu-Tang will suck SAY IT AIN'T SO PLEASE

warm regardssz,
JOPE

Pivot - Make Me Love You (2005)

http://sharebee.com/c5b6ac38

Pivot
An Australian instrumental band. They play a cool post/prog rock kind of music, with a bit of electronics and minimalism. Make Me Love You is their debut album, and managed to earn plenty of praise. It was the most "obscure" of the nominees for triple j's J Award (Australian album of the year) in '05.

1. Make Me Love You
2. Artificial Horizon
3. Incidental Backcloth
4. Montecore
5. La Mer
6. Pivot Voltron
7. I May Be Gone For Some Time
8. Kirsten Dunst
9. Helps None But Hurts None

Yes, that's a song named after Kirsten Dunst. And Montecore is named after the tiger belonging to Sigfried & Roy (that attacked Roy a while back). THIS BLOG IS FOR EDUCATION.

The music's pretty engaging and fascinating to listen to. Tracks will be easy then intense, but not violent like GY!BE (for example). In their own words (MySpace), the influences are: Jean Michel Jarre, Talking Heads, Brian Eno, Liars, Aphex Twin, Ricardo Villalobos, Andrew Pekler, Vangelis, This Heat, Lightning Bolt, Arcade Fire, Chris Lilley, Garth Marenghi, Tim & Eric. I don't know, most prog/post fans I know liked this, it's just really cool music. Highlights are the title track, "Pivot Voltron" and "Kirsten Dunst".

sincerely,
JOPE

Bardo Pond- Amanita (1996)

"The High Frequency" - 6:51
"Clean Sweep" (bonus vinyl track)
"Sometimes Words" - 4:38
"Yellow Turban" - 7:38
"Rumination" - 6:22
"Be a Fish" - 4:42
"Tapir Song" - 7:32
"Brambles" (bonus vinyl track)
"RM" - 9:18

A brilliant release by Bardo Pond, a band I know got at least one person laid. At last check, approximately 140+ people were reading this blog so that's 140 more people to have sex to it huh!

Good stoner post rock stuff, needs headphones or a great sound system. Just great fucking shit!

HERE'S A TERRIBLE REVIEW OF A GREAT FUCKING ALBUM

"As the resin oozes on, sticking everything in its path to the couch, Bardo stumbles into the 2nd phase of a full length zone-out. Limp-lidded guitars are in more abundance than ever, courses are being plotted with the controls set for the heart of the bowl, and somewhere deep inside a 'rock' band has emerged... however baked it may be."

Drumcorps- Grist (2006)

8. Incarnate

9. Worse

10. Time

11. Grist

Probably the best grindcore album I've found, Drumcorps is a little known group that's very sample heavy (since I'm not into the hardcore scene, I didn't recognize a lot of the samples anyways though) and energetic as fuck. If you like being punched in the head by music, get this album. Be warned, it is hardcore music, and if you don't like that, you almost certainly won't like this. I love the fuck out of Grist personally, so get it if you are even slightly interested.

Fela Kuti- Zombie (1977)

"Zombie" – 12:26
"Mister Follow Follow" – 12:57
"Observation Is No Crime" - 13:25

"Fela Anikulapo Kuti (born Olufela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, October 15, 1938 - August 2, 1997), or simply Fela, was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, pioneer of Afrobeat music, human rights activist, and political maverick."

FUCK YEAH.

Guess what: if you don't like Fela Kuti, you're either tonedeaf or a racist!

THIS IS THE OPINION OF THIS BLOG!!!

Jazzy black guy doin African shit, get this shit and yeah, ROCK THE FUCK OUT IF YOU HAVE A SOUL.

Panacea- Ink Is My Drink (2005)

"Trip of the Century"

"Reel Me In"
"PULSE"
"Work of Art"
"These Words"
"Ecosphere"
"Burning Bush"
"Starlite"
"Sunburst (Bonus)"
"Pupil Stars (Bonus)"

A fantastic group out of Washington DC, Panacea consists of MC Raw Poetic (an MC I model my own rapping style out of) and producer K-Murdock. The beats are sample heavy and sometimes jarring as they transition, but this is a fantastic album any hiphop fan should grab. Poetic has a unique style and can flow ridiculously, with intelligent lyrics, and K-Murdock's beats are pretty much fire (although, admittedly, they can get very spastic). Check them out, and if there's interest, I'll upload the second album or Restoring Poetry in Music and the Y Society, which are side projects.

One of the best bands ever! Stoner rock at its best. If you like music, you owe it to yourself to get this. I honestly can't praise this enough; one of my favorite finds ever, and the pinnacle of stoner rock really. Check it out!

OXES- OXXES (2002)

18159. Oxes - [Oxxxes #07] Bees Won
18160. Oxes - [Oxxxes #08] Russia Is Here

A post/math rock band out of Baltimore, Maryland, Oxes sounds a lot like Battles with more metal. Notorious pranksters who liked to challenge a lot of conventions at concerts, Oxes has a small cult following, and it's surprising more people don't talk about them in a genre of music as boring as post rock. Honestly, unless you have an issue against guitars and instrumental songs, and if you like Battles at all, you owe it to yourself to check out Oxes!

ps: I believe the proper band's name is OXES, but that gets irritating to type out.

Blink (3:54)

No Rest For The Weary (5:36)

Blue Scholars is a duo out of Seattle, Washington, MC Geologic and DJ Sabizi. They've opened for a lot of big names in the past, and are getting more and more popular. The group mostly raps about society and a lot about youth (some of their songs directly catering to high schoolers).

Their self-titled brings to mind the style of Heiruspecs. Give it a shot if you haven't.
